Paras Kaul, a Neural Artist/Researcher

Paras Kaul is a brainwave multimedia artist, researcher, and music composer who utilizes a brainwave interface to the computer to create multimedia performances that have been performed nationally and internationally. To call attention to brain matters, she has presented brainwave interactive multimedia exhibits at prestigious venues, such as the Electric Garden for SIGGRAPH '97.
Background
Beginning as an effort to understand early life experiences with hypnosis, her research continues to focus on the use of technology to analyze brainwave states and develop neurological learning environments that provide new methodologies for teaching and learning."
Brainwave Games
Using EEG analysis via the system's software, Kaul inputs neural data to the computer where it is used to power a biofeedback multimedia control system. In 1997 she began developing prototypes for neurological games intended to train persons to maintain their brainwaves in lower frequency ranges, proposing that in lower frequency ranges of alpha and theta, noise factors are eliminated from neural signaling. Extended time in lower frequency ranges enables focused attention with increased clarity.
Kaul's research suggests that continued practice with a brainwave learning game enables one to train the brain, thus increasing neural plasticity and potentially awakening the ability for nonverbal communication and healing, therefore valuable for sophisticated communication and rehabilitation purposes.
